Being a parent is a daily challenge. Few things in life stimulate intense emotions - positive and negative - like parenting. We often feel like we are flying by the seat of our pants as our children did not come with Owners Manuals. We may find ourselves overwhelmed and out of ideas when faced with the task of shepherding our children toward adulthood.
Therapy focuses on using skills to calm emotions down. We make poor decisions when distressed. Therapy also focuses on steps to take to build positive interactions between parent and child. Therapy addressed reasonable behavioral expectations of parents and implementing these within the context of the individual child/teen's temperament and capacities. Developing natural consequences for ineffective behavior is also a target in therapy.
