The feeling of depression is a lot like quicksand. It keeps us stuck and our automatic efforts to get unstuck often make the situation worse. The main urge we feel is to avoid - our thoughts, feelings, others, our lives. Unfortunately, these actions, or lack of action, only make depression more intense and more difficult to overcome.
Depression is most often a signal your life is not headed in the direction you would like. We will focus on your values as a starting point to identify behaviors that need to occur more often to make life satisfying. We will address the barriers to engaging in those behaviors you discover as you attempt to do them. We will work to accept unhelpful input from your mind and body and turn your attention to the present moment and what you would like your life to be in the long-term, not short-term avoidance of distress.
